An ode to the beauty of craft and community, Works In Progress is an exhibition series highlighting the artistry of object making in the Bay Area. The first iteration in January 2024 shed light on the various ways designers envision tangible companions for living, and highlighted a fundamental desire to share, connect and build upon one another as creatives.
Works In Progress II further unfolds the idea of community, exploring its essence through the lens of collaboration. Fourteen artists and design studios have been paired together to make a single composition: a screen. An object in itself yet inherently spatial, a screen is an intervention in space. Its power lies in defining its environment, dictating what and how we perceive our surroundings. Screens help us frame new perspectives.
Representing a range of approaches to materiality, construction, and presentation, the exhibition features seven collaborative screens from Bay Area-based studios. A collision between independent processes and practices, each screen is a unique collaborative artifact. Singular works from each of the fourteen artists are woven around the screens as guiding pillars of each practice. Together, a conversation emerges in the space between individual expression and creative intersection.
