Alexandria Residence

This home was designed for an art collector couple, so we considered each space as a conversation between sculpture, objects, framed work, and furniture. Vintage and contemporary elements coexist throughout the interior: The living room, for example, pairs an Artek floor lamp by Alvar Aalto with a graphic red travertine coffee table, sculptural wooden stools, and existing seating from the duo’s previous home. In a corner niche, custom floating shelves provide display areas for the homeowners to rotate in their newest finds. For the waterfront-facing dining room, we designed cutout shelving that echoes the curvature of the round dining table and provides additional exhibition space; a Gino Sarfatti pendant overhead adds glassy texture and a sense of intimacy. Color defines the bedroom through layers of art, as well as ochre bed linens—combined with modern furnishings and a soft, textural rug, this area becomes a retreat for rest, light work, and reading.
